Formal and Informal Gardens

Large homes that have plenty of land often have formal gardens. While not every home will have acres to devote to the garden, even a small formal garden brings beauty and value to a home. Planning and execution are the two key areas to concentrate on when creating an artistic formal garden. Sometimes, doing everything at once is not possible. Building a formal garden in stages is perfectly acceptable. It allows for changes if the original plan requires modifications.

Many people are intimidated by the thought of creating a formal garden. The most difficult part is creating a mirror image on both sides of the centre. This takes careful placement and care of the plants that go into the garden. It does not limit the types of plants a gardener can choose. This is left to their artistic abilities. Once the basic design has been chosen and planted, it is merely a matter of keeping up with trimming and weeding through the seasons.

For those that would prefer to extend their creativity throughout a garden, informal gardens are where they create their work of natural art. Placement of bushes and flowers throughout the garden depends on the end product they are trying to create. Working with nature, some of the most beautiful art in the world can be found in informal gardens. These are places where people plant the flowers and bushes they want to see. They cherish and care for them until full growth is established. Each part of an informal garden is a part of the whole scene being created for admirers.

No matter what type of garden motif is chosen, careful gardeners work to create an artistic scene. Their choices must be flexible because plants often change with the seasons. Even roses will have their time to bloom and eventually hibernate during the cold. When that occurs, the gardener must be ready to highlight a different part of the garden to keep the artistic look they desire.
